Maritime archaeology is the study of ancient maritime cultures. It is an archaeology that is interdisciplinary and global in nature. The course provides students with the opportunity to study the maritime archaeology of sites around the globe, ranging from the earliest evidence of maritime culture in the Near East (Neolithic, Bronze Age, and Iron Age periods) and the emergence of maritime trade in Ancient Greece and Rome, to the development of shipping technology in the ancient and Medieval world.
