University of Malta Recognizes Outstanding Science Students
The University of Malta recently celebrated the achievements of its top science students at the annual Dean of Science Awards ceremony. Held on March 14th, 2025, at the ICT Auditorium on the Msida campus, the event recognized students across various disciplines for their exceptional academic performance. This prestigious ceremony, a tradition since 1995, brought together awardees, their families, and esteemed sponsors to commend the hard work and dedication of the Faculty of Science’s brightest minds.
Dean’s Welcome Address
Professor Emmanuel Sinagra, Dean of the Faculty of Science, opened the ceremony by extending heartfelt congratulations to the students and acknowledging the unwavering support of their families. Dean’s List and Special Awards

The awardees included: Karl Caruana, Andy Debrincat and Michael Hall (Year I); Mattea Baluci, Julian Formosa and Daniel Galea (Year II); Jonathan Cauchi, Mishayel Rivoltini and Juan Scerri (Year III); Adriana Baldacchino, Maronia Chetcuti and Matthew Debono (Year IV).
In addition to the Dean’s List, several special awards were presented to students who demonstrated exceptional talent in specific areas:
- BOV Special Prize for Science: Awarded to Adriana Baldacchino for outstanding performance throughout the B.Sc. (Hons) program.
- Best Environment Final Year Project: Sponsored by ERA and awarded to Antonia Scicluna.
- Best Final Year Project in the Numerate Sciences: Sponsored by Eunoia Limited and awarded to Adriana Baldacchino.
- KPMG Prize for Quantitative Excellence: Awarded to Adriana Baldacchino.
- Torrent Prize for Analytical Chemistry: Awarded to Claire Pace.
- Medichem Prize for Organic Chemistry: Awarded to Yelyzaveta Bazalieieva.
- Best Final Year Project related to Arthropods: Sponsored by the Entomological Society of Malta and awarded to Martina Giulia Mifsud.
- MAPFRE Best Dissertation in Finance: Awarded to Adam Buckle.
Certificates of Merit and Masters Distinction Awards
The ceremony also recognized students who achieved high standards in their final year dissertations with Certificates of Merit, and acknowledged outstanding performance in Master’s programs with Masters Distinction Award Certificates.
